Musings of a Called Girl

I have just finished reading “The Lion’s World”, a new book by Rowan Williams on the world created by C S Lewis in his acclaimed Narnia series.  I must admit to coming to this book with limited prior knowledge of the Narnia stories.  I was never able to finish one as a child, despite devouring other books voraciously from the age of about ten upwards and when I attempted them again in adulthood as bedtime stories for my first child, she was similarly unimpressed and they were once again abandoned to the back of the bookshelf.  I always found them a little too fantastic and “other worldly” for my taste.  I am one of life’s sensible people, I like stories that are routed in some sort of reality that I recognise and to which I can relate.  Fantasy always got filed away in the “too silly to waste time on”…
